A personal loss - IRRFAN

Irrfan (1967-2020)

Irrfan is no more. This statement is true and false at the same time. An actor of that stature can't die, he'll always be a click away from us, thanks to the streaming platforms. I just watched "Paan Singh Tomar" before writing this blog. I am not an expert in acting but I understand this much that it's all about perfect expressions and who was better than Irrfan when it comes to expressions. How can anyone forget his magical eyes! As Shahrukh Sir tweeted, "Paimana kahe hai koi, Maikhana kahe hai, Duniya teri aankhon ko, Kya Kya na kahe hai".

With his unconventional facial features and all those unconventional roles, this man drew attention to his talent by his choices of movies and his unmatchable acting prowess. From the very start till the very end, no one ever complained about the ACTING of Sir Irrfan. When I got the news of his passing, it instantly felt like a personal loss, like someone too close to me has left.

I am not only a fan of Actor Irrfan but also of the perfect man he was. His wisdom, his way of speaking, his passion and his infectious rarely seen smile are a few things I'll miss.

As a budding writer, I wouldn't lie, I too dared to dream that one day I'll probably write a poem or a script for this man and he in his unique way will recite my lines. Who can forget the lines he recited in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Haider'-
" Darya bhi main, Darkht bhi main
Jhelum bhi main, chinar bhi main
Dair bhi hoon, haram bhi hoon
 Main tha, Main hoon
Aur main hi rahoonga. "

These lines are still echoing inside my head because the character "Roohdaar" which he played in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Haider' was according to me the best supporting actor performance in Bollywood- so impactful and performed to perfection.

One of my favourite quotes of his was-
"You cannot reduce the power of a story with the tag of Money because it's not the share market. You must know the seriousness of the power of storytelling."

For a person like me who wants to live and die as a storyteller these lines are like "amrit" and it'll be forever etched in my brain. We live in a digital world and today we're surrounded by people ready with their devices to opine on anything and everything. As soon as the news broke of Sir Irrfan's passing, the internet broke too. All I could see was his legendary dialogues, his images and the amount of love and respect everyone had for him.

 "Mohabbat hai isliye jaane dia,
Zidd hoti toh baahon mein hoti".

This dialogue of his was trending on social media. At first I couldn't remember the movies name but I very well remembered the scene and Sir Irrfan's delivery. This was his impact, you could forget the movie's name but you couldn't forget his character. Writing about him is a never ending process and It's hard to believe that we're not going to see a new movie or a show headlined by him.
These lines instantly came inside my head when I remembered him and it was a tribute from me to this beautiful man. May you rest in peace Legend and bless the world now from heaven.

- Ritesh.
